About This Place

Nestled along Wharf Road in the charming village of Stanford-le-Hope, Thameside Coffee Shop is a delightful retreat for anyone seeking a warm, inviting space to unwind after exploring the natural beauty of the nearby Stanford Wharf Reserve. More than just a typical cafe, this cozy coffee shop offers a comforting blend of simple yet satisfying fare with a backdrop of serene riverside views that perfectly complement any visit.

The cafe’s menu is a treasure trove of homemade goodness, with particular highlights that beckon the palate. Their cheese and ham toasted sandwiches are crafted with care, delivering a nostalgic crunch and melty richness that's utterly crave-worthy. If you’re after something more savory, the Stuff’d selection offers hearty options like sausage rolls and the robust flavors of beef or cheese and potato pasties—handy for a quick yet fulfilling bite. For a sweeter snack, the toasted teacake buttered to perfection is an elegant companion to their lovingly brewed hot chocolates and lattes, which have won heartfelt praise from regulars. Vegetarians and vegans will appreciate thoughtful touches such as Heinz baked beans paired with smoked vegan Applewood cheese, showcasing the cafe’s attention to diverse tastes.

What truly sets Thameside Coffee Shop apart is the tranquil atmosphere enhanced by friendly, attentive staff who make every guest feel right at home. As Donna Sherman fondly recalls, it’s the perfect spot to relax, perhaps with a good book accompanied by the gentle view of life flowing outside the window. This feeling of peaceful contentment is echoed time and again by customers who find themselves returning after a rewarding walk through the nearby reserve.

Beyond the food and drinks, this coffee shop serves as a gateway to nature’s wonders. Visitors like laurens francis mention the joy of spotting wildlife with a pair of binoculars, while families appreciate the children-friendly environment and the scenic viewing platform that offers breathtaking panoramas of the Thames. The combination of delicious refreshments and stunning surroundings creates a memorable experience that resonates deeply with those craving a break from everyday hustle.

Whether you’re concluding a countryside ramble with a warming cuppa or seeking a quiet nook to gather your thoughts, Thameside Coffee Shop feels like more than just a pit stop—it’s a haven where the simple pleasures of good food, welcoming company, and nature’s embrace converge. As Gary Couch aptly puts it, it’s now a “regular drop-in spot” for locals and visitors alike, inviting everyone to pause, savor, and soak in the magic of this lovely riverside gem.

A hidden gem. The walks are glorious, with beautiful views. There is plenty for the children to do and the viewing platform is lovely. It is a great place to escape too with the family for some fresh air and cake. We will be back!
